Ames 1860 Model Civil War Cavalry Sword w/Scabbard

Description:

Ca. Mid 19thC. Overall very good in complete condition. Made by the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee Massachusetts in 1865, this 1860 model US cavalry sword is in exceptionally good condition. Faint but complete maker scroll version marked on the ricasso one side, inspector "J.C.W.", "U.S." and "1865" date marks the other. Unsharpened as was the norm. Blade approx. L: 34.5" total 40.5", with scabbard 42.5". On the pommel cap is an interesting stamp: "ALA F 81". Not sure if this indicates anything-I'd like to think ALA is for Alabama. Possibly a capture?
