Description:
Circa 1725-1800. One top crown slight wood repairs, otherwise in fine original (exceptional) condition throughout. The carved wood was created in a three layer style, with incredibly intricate detail. Even the support wood frame pieces are surface carved into floral patterns. Inlay is complete. Each original piece of porcelain is set within original wood framed panels, showing no cracks, chips or repairs. This fine screen measures approx. 78 1/2" tall, by 50" wide open. Notice the bottom left porcelain panel depicts an Empress; another panel shows a solar eclipse. Possibly this scene depicts the 1742 total eclipse seen over the Hong Kong area. The finely detailed and beautifully painted porcelain panels, plus the elaborate carving support a southern Chinese style.
